2012 NDK and NDK NYE Charity Total!

With the $2,328 donation from the Hyatt Regency Denver Tech Center Hotel (our amazing official overflow), and our total NDK NYE proceeds, which were rounded up from $2,391 to an even $2,500 by NDK’s parent nonprofit organization, the RMAA…. our total, 100% donated, 2012 charity proceeds were… (drumroll please!) $19,101!!!!!!

Thank you to everyone who helped make that possible. Between the Aurora Victim Relief Fund (benefiting those affected by the Century 16 shooting) and the American Heart Association (in memory of a staffer we lost), you guys helped a lot of people. Thank you, thank you, thank you! NDK attendees are the BEST, most generous convention attendees in the world, and we ♥ you!

Well, guys… (laughs) …If you like Hetalia, and you like Germany — and I hope you do because I voice Germany — then you should really like Monster because it’s set largely in Germany! You’ve got the East German, West German thing, you’ve got mind-control experiments in the Czech Republic, you’ve got your Europe fix, your anime fix, but the main character Dr. Tenma’s still Japanese, so— […]

[Dr. Tenma] is very bishounen. He’s a pretty boy. And sometimes when he’s on the run he doesn’t shave, his hair gets a little shaggy, and that’s pretty delightful, he looks downright sparkly. He’s… he’s like France, but with dark hair. And then there’s Johan, who’s evil, and very bishounen. He’s got pretty hair, very pretty hair, and a soft voice. You just want him to tell you things, secret things, just have him whisper in your ear. Watch Monster.

Patrick Seitz, ADR director and writer for the dubbed version of Naoki Urasawa’s Monster, attempts to (jokingly) sell the show to Hetalia fans in an interview with Otaku USA magazine. Will you watch?
NDK NYE Charity Update

One of our two charities for NDK 2012, the Aurora Victim Relief Fund, will be ceasing operations after Nov. 15. So, NDK NYE’s chosen charity will be the other selected beneficiary for the year: the American Heart Association

In honor of a staffer we lost to a heart condition, we’ve already donated $7,136.50 (half of the $14,245 raised). We’re excited to see how much more can be added to the total . :)

Teca’s (with guest writer Lilacwire) NDK WCS Report

tecanoshinju:

After all these years of doing cosplay, I’m beginning to realize that there is no such thing as “starting early enough” for me. Ever. I started on my Kefka outfit four months before NDK and it was still a down-to-the-wire experience. Part of the problem is that I’m not drawn to simple costumes or to costumes that don’t require learning a new technique and Kefka is LAYERED with new techniques for me(silk painting, gradient painting, fray trim, sewing different kinds of spandex, top-stitching spandex, feather dying, etc). New techniques make the outfit exciting and a challenge but they also make it nearly impossible to figure out how long it will take. I ended up making four different patterns for the bodysuit layers, something which I never would have thought I had to do until I actually started tworking with the fabric.

Long story short, by Friday of the con, I was basically a walking zombie, running off less sleep in the past two weeks than I normally get in one week. All the pieces were done but I had never put them all on together. Lilacwire and I had decided early on that we were going to bring our outfits on hangers to judging, rather than wearing them, because we prefer to be able to show off our construction and then show off the fit when we’re actually on stage.  I had three panels before judging at 10pm and Lilacwire helped me with the last so we could just tromp on over to the judging with our costumes in suitcases and garment bags.

Here’s the 3D time lapse from my indoor balcony at NDK this year! 3,907 pictures from each camera stitched together. The speed on this is 1 second in the video is equal to 10 minutes. There’s more details in the description of the video. So, grab your 3D glasses or 3D displays/TV and check it out! Oh, and do yourself a favor and watch in HD. 3D doesn’t work so well in low resolution.

Neat!
